The Indian stock market will remain open on August 26, even as Eid-e-Milad is observed across India on Wednesday. The festival marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad and is listed as a holiday by several government departments and institutions.However, the BSE and NSE will function as usual, with only a settlement holiday in place. Trading will continue normally, while the clearing and settlement of trades will remain suspended for the day.The next stock market holiday will be on September 14 for Ganesh Chaturthi. Markets will subsequently remain closed on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti, October 20 for Dussehra, November 10 for Diwali Balipratipada, November 24 for Guru Nanak Jayanti and December 25 for Christmas, which will be the final stock market holiday of 2026.Is MCX open tomorrow?The Multi Commodity Exchange of India will also remain open on August 26 for both its morning and evening trading sessions. According to MCX's annual trading calendar, the exchange has 16 trading holidays in 2026, with markets either partially or fully closed on those days.The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited will also remain operational as usual on August 26.Stock Market Holidays 2026In 2026, four key holidays fall on weekends and therefore will not lead to additional market closures. These include Mahashivratri on February 15 and Eid-Ul-Fitr on March 21, both of which have already passed, along with Independence Day on August 15 and Diwali Laxmi Pujan on November 8.Diwali Laxmi Pujan will fall on a Sunday this year, though exchanges will conduct the customary Muhurat Trading session on November 8. The timings for the special one-hour session will be announced closer to the date. Independence Day, meanwhile, fell on a Saturday.Stock market todayThe Indian stock market extended losses on Tuesday, with Sensex and Nifty opening in the red even as oil prices remained steady after falling sharply in the previous session after the US imposed harsher secondary sanctions against Iran.After opening, Sensex dropped 200 points to fall below 77,150, while Nifty 50 lost 83 points to 24,136 on Tuesday morning.
