Jason Arday’s memoir will still be released in the UK this week, his publishers have confirmed, with the late sociology professor’s family saying they want to “honour his wishes”.
In their first public comments since the academic was found dead in London on 14 August, Arday’s family released a statement via Simon & Schuster UK that says the book, Great and Unfortunate Things, will “speak for itself”.
Arday had intended to publish his account of his life on 27 August, before he became the subject of at the centre of a media frenzy after questions emerged about his academic and personal achievements.
The book, which charts how Arday rose to become the youngest black professor at the University of Cambridge, was released in the US on 11 August and will still come out in the UK on Thursday, the statement says.
