The plagiarism allegations were initially made by academic Nathan Cofnas, who has since been suspended from Ghent University while a preliminary disciplinary investigation takes place. More than 30,000 people attended a vigil in Trafalgar Square to pay tribute to Cambridge's youngest Black professor, with speakers strongly criticising the media coverage and campaign against him. A crowdfunding appeal organised by Sir Patrick Vernon has raised over £224,000 for the academic's family, who confirmed that his memoir, Great And Unfortunate Things, will still be published as planned.
