Italy enter Women’s EuroVolley 2026 as Olympic and world champions, but not as the defending European champions. They finished fourth at EuroVolley 2023, where Türkiye won the title, Serbia took silver and the Netherlands claimed bronze. Results since then have placed Italy back at the top of the longer-term hierarchy.
Their 2026 Volleyball Nations League campaign supplied a more balanced warning. Italy finished the preliminary phase 10–2, swept the Netherlands in the quarter-finals and then lost a five-set semi-final to Brazil. A 3–1 win over China secured bronze. Türkiye arrive with the freshest trophy after beating Brazil 3–1 in the VNL final.
The European Championship runs from 21 August to 6 September 2026. Its 24 teams will play 76 matches across Istanbul, Brno, Baku and Gothenburg. Four teams from each six-team pool advance to the round of 16, while the champion also earns a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Four Cities Feed One Knockout Race
Istanbul stages Pool A, where Türkiye, Poland, Germany, Slovenia, Hungary and Latvia compete. The headline match comes last: Türkiye face Poland on 28 August. That scheduling allows both teams to settle their rotations, but it also means first place could be decided when fatigue is beginning to influence serve and reception.
