I’m in the midst of training for my sixth marathon, but I’m not getting any younger, which means I need to invest in gear that will keep my body happy and healthy. One of my big concerns throughout this preparation is minimizing pain caused by plantar fasciitis, because nothing stops you in your tracks quite like inflamed fascia that make every step feel like you’re walking on a pile of Legos. To prevent this from happening, I added an innovative double-sided foot roller to my recovery routine to ward off foot pain so I can run comfortably. Most foot rollers are glorified foam logs, but I wanted to test the best of the best, so I chose Chirp’s Sole Vibe tool and put it through the wringer for two months to see what it was all about.
Similar to larger foam rollers, foot rollers are self-myofascial release tools that relieve muscle soreness and body tension by boosting blood flow and massaging tight fascia. To use them, you roll your feet against the device for a few minutes as often as you wish. While it’s a simple routine, studies have shown that this kind of therapy is better at reducing pain than stretching.
So, did the Chirp Sole Vibe keep me pain-free during marathon training?
