UC Berkeley will offer a Master of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning – a new graduate professional degree program for STEM graduates – starting in fall 2027, with applications opening Sept. 24, 2026.The Master of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (MAIML) is a full-time degree program taken over two semesters in person at the Berkeley campus. Students will develop mastery of the computational and statistical foundations of machine learning and AI to create, improve, understand and responsibly deploy and apply state-of-the-art ML and AI systems.The program is offered by the UC Berkeley College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) and designed and taught by faculty in the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) and Statistics.The MAIML curriculum spans core coursework in data science, machine learning, probability, statistical inference and AI ethics, with specialized electives and a Silicon Valley immersion experience between semesters. To graduate, students must complete all required coursework and pass a comprehensive examination.“With the introduction of the Master’s in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning degree, UC Berkeley is creating a unique opportunity for students to receive rigorous AI training in an ecosystem that champions transformation,” said Jennifer Chayes, CDSS dean. “Our graduates will be the architects of new technologies that help define the future.”Applications to the MAIML program will open on Sept. 24, 2026, and the first student cohort will start in fall 2027.
