Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, altered the campaign slogan of U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday, August 24, writing on X: "Make America Hungry Again." Trump's original campaign slogan was "Make America Great Again."
Ghalibaf's remarks come at a time when, according to official Islamic Republic data, the inflation rate in July surpassed 66%, the price of the U.S. dollar exceeded 202,000 tomans, and media outlets are reporting a sharp decline in household purchasing power, the removal of red meat from many Iranian households' grocery baskets, and the price of a 30-egg tray reaching between 465,000 and 640,000 tomans.
Ghalibaf also posted an image claiming that 47 million people in the U.S. face daily hunger and 16 million children remain hungry. Addressing the U.S., he wrote: "You cannot cover up failures with false claims."
This reaction was published after Trump reposted a Newsmax report on Truth Social regarding Ghalibaf's speech in Iraq, a report carrying the headline: "Iran's Speaker of Parliament: We are hungry, we cannot endure."
