Greece’s men’s basketball team defeated Cyprus 82-75 in a friendly in Athens on Monday, ahead of two upcoming 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers.
Played at the Telekom Center, the match saw Greece gradually take control after a competitive opening period. Tyler Dorsey led the Greek offense with 18 points, while Omiros Netzipoglou emerged as a key factor with nine points and four steals in the second quarter.
Netzipoglou’s defensive contribution helped Greece establish a lead that it maintained throughout the second half. Greece held a double-digit advantage during much of the third and fourth quarters, although Cyprus narrowed the gap late in the game.
The Greek side will now turn its attention to Ukraine, which it will face in Latvia on Friday, before hosting Spain on August 31.
The games form part of the European qualification process for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The qualifying tournament will determine 31 of the 32 teams, with hosts Qatar securing automatic qualification. [AMNA, Kathimerini]
