Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda does not rule out Russia carrying out “false flag” operations targeting infrastructure in the Baltic states.
According to a Ukrinform correspondent, the Lithuanian president said this at a press conference following the Coalition of the Willing summit held in Kyiv today.
“Our intelligence data show that we have to remain vigilant, as there is a risk of false flag operations being carried out in the future. And the primary target is critical infrastructure. Because for us, the independence of the energy sector is extremely important,” Nausėda said.
He noted that many projects crucial to the resilience of Lithuania’s energy sector have been implemented in recent years, including the LNG terminal in Klaipėda and the synchronization or integration of the electricity grid with the continental European grid. It is very important for the country to maintain stable electricity generation and supply, so a number of important measures have been taken to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure facilities.
Nausėda recalled that Lithuania shares a 680-kilometer border with Belarus and a 120-kilometer border with the Kaliningrad region, meaning it has very long borders with adversaries.
