The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran, on Monday, urged senior rebel functionaries of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), S.P. Velumani, C.Ve. Shanmugam and Natham R. Viswanathan not to make public their observations regarding internal issues of their organisation. “Else, this will boomerang them,” Mr Dhinakaran told journalists in Thanjavur. Referring to the demand of the dissident leaders that those who had been relieved of their party positions after having gone against the party line during the trust motion proposed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in mid-May, Mr Dhinakaran recalled he had discussed the matter with the AIADMK’s general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who explained to him that it would not be proper for him to restore the old positions to the dissidents, who had voted contrary to the party’s direction. Besides, such a move would only generate a great deal of heartburning among those who had been made the new office bearers. The AMMK leader clarified there was no motive behind his support to Mr Palaniswami on the matter. He also criticised Revenue Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan, who was with the AIADMK till November last, for having reportedly made negative remarks about the future of the Dravidian major. He also came down on the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led regime for having fixed an annual income limit for beneficiaries to become eligible for the free cooking gas cylinder scheme. “He [Chief Minister and the TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay] should have told people about eligibility conditions at the time of seeking votes during the poll campaign,” Mr Dhinkaran added. Published - August 24, 2026 09:06 pm IST
