The new electric motorhome from CityFreighter, Vöhringer and Motive Development is a demonstrator designed for the new European Class B category for vehicles weighing up to 4.25 tonnes. The partners see the flat floor of the Evolve platform as a key advantage, as it allows for a lower entry and more standing height inside the vehicle. CityFreighter puts the range at around 400 kilometres.
Vöhringer supplied the interior using its AIRPLY lightweight construction technology. As a result, the demonstrator – including the battery, kitchen, bathroom and heat pump – weighs less than 3.5 tonnes, leaving around 750 kilogrammes of payload capacity. The living space measures 6.95 x 2.35 x 2.72 metres. Motive Development designed the exterior and vehicle architecture, while CityFreighter provided the skateboard platform. Other partners involved in the project include OPES Solar Mobility, Dometic, Isringhausen, Euramax, Zambelli, Jokon and Nolden.
The demonstrator is equipped with a 128 kWh battery, which is designed to provide the stated range of around 400 kilometres. It also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. DC charging is possible at up to 200 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 20 minutes. The battery is also designed for ‘independent maintenance, replacement, or upgrades.’ This is intended to reduce maintenance costs and improve the vehicle’s residual value over the long term.
