The ID. California Cruise is planned as the first of a new generation of electric camper vans.
The name is new, but the idea is clear: the ID. California Cruise brings the California spirit to the ID. Buzz, turning it into Volkswagen’s first fully electric camper van. Debuting at the 2026 Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, the vehicle blends the classic VW Bus formula, camping hardware, and battery-electric power, with pricing starting at about €60,800 ($70,800) in Germany and first deliveries expected in early 2027.
The ID. California Cruise also marks the start of a true Volkswagen family of electric camper vans, set to expand by 2028 with additional models. The focus here is practicality: a bed for two, a dedicated “California” mode for camping stops, power for camping accessories, and integration with the California App to plan charging stops, making it easier to organize road trips and weekends away without giving up comfort or range.
