The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav to extend the deadline for filing claims and objections under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to September 10, 2026.BJP State general secretaries Nagothu Ramesh Naidu and Sannareddy Dayakar Reddy submitted a representation to the CEO on Monday, seeking additional time for voters to verify their details, submit documents and file claims and objections.The SIR exercise was being conducted on a large scale across the State and more time was needed for verification of voter details, collection of necessary information and submission of supporting documents, they said.Eligible voters should not lose the opportunity to seek inclusion of their names, deletion of incorrect entries or correction of voter details because of the limited deadline, the BJP leaders said.They also urged the Election Commission to take into account the practical difficulties being faced by voters, Booth Level Agents, Booth Level Officers and election personnel during the revision process.Stressing the need to protect the voting rights of every eligible citizen and ensure that the SIR process was completed in a comprehensive, transparent and accurate manner, they said that extending the deadline would help ensure justice to voters and contribute to the preparation of a comprehensive, accurate and credible electoral roll.They appealed to the Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission of India to extend the deadline for filing claims and objections until September 10.
