The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday urged the Election Commission to extend the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh by three months, alleging procedural lapses, political interference and inadequate voter coverage.A CPI delegation led by State secretary G. Eswaraiah met Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav at the State Secretariat and submitted a memorandum seeking an extension of the revision process, which is scheduled to conclude on July 14. The delegation comprised former MLC Jalli Wilson and CPI State secretariat members Akkineni Vanaja and D. Jagadish. According to the party, Mr. Yadav assured the delegation that the request would be forwarded to the Election Commission of India.Speaking to the media, Mr. Eswaraiah alleged that many eligible voters were at risk of losing their voting rights because of missing entries in the rolls, difficulties in filling up enumeration forms, negligence by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and alleged political interference. He claimed that migrant workers from Rayalaseema and north Andhra could be left out of the revision exercise as enumeration was being conducted in their native villages.Mr. Eswaraiah also questioned the official figures relating to the revision exercise, alleging that the authorities were counting distributed forms rather than completed and uploaded applications. He further alleged that many voters faced difficulties in submitting forms online and were not issued acknowledgements after submission.The CPI demanded that the revision exercise be extended by three months, called for measures to ensure a transparent and politically neutral enumeration process, and sought special arrangements to facilitate the enrolment of migrant workers and other vulnerable sections.
