SANTA CLARA, Calif. — It was a lovely Sunday, not too hot with a timely breeze the second someone thought they actually might be uncomfortable. There were no clouds over the San Francisco 49ers practice field, and the electrical substation looming over the fence next door did not look like something out of a horror film foreboding bad things.A padded-up George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey returned to practice, Kittle for the first time since he tore an Achilles tendon seven months ago. Also back were rookie sensation De’Zhaun Stribling and top cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, albeit with different-color jerseys to signal to stay clear of their sore shoulders. With only three practices left on this continent before the season opener in Australia, there was panic among fans and excitable media types about all the injuries. After, of course, all of the injuries last season.Top Plays from 49ers @ ChargersAlthough there is still a long list of guys out — can we get a proof of life on pass rusher Nick Bosa? — there was an extra pep to everyone’s step at Sunday’s practice.“It was nice, good to see them back in,” right tackle Colton McKivitz said. “Obviously, (we were) expecting George to be back a little later. But to have him in the huddle, around the guys, getting to see him in a set of pads is really nice.“And also Christian, it just adds a little more speed and just another level of excitement in the huddle when you got a guy like him that’s in there. So it’s exciting for us.”McCaffrey said he felt great and that he “loves where the team is” right now. Maybe he knows something about Bosa that we don’t, since Bosa has not practiced this training camp due to tendinitis coming off knee surgery. And because this is the 49ers, even a feel-good story has to have an asterisk, as new No. 1 receiver Mike Evans left the field early for the second time in three practices after he dealt with a quadriceps issue earlier in training camp.
49ers hope injury curse finally lifting with only 1 star, Nick Bosa, sidelined
