PENGU, the native token of the Pudgy Penguins ecosystem, rallied roughly 62% over the past week, trading between $0.0095 and $0.0102 as of late August 2026. The catalyst wasn’t a product launch or a major partnership. It was something far more old-school: the prospect of an IPO.
CEO Luca Netz has been vocal about his ambition to take Pudgy Penguins public by 2027, a timeline he first laid out in 2025 interviews. Back then, he set a target revenue of $50 million for 2025 and said he’d feel “disappointed” if the company hadn’t filed for an IPO by 2027.
What’s behind the move
Approximately 703 million PENGU tokens were unlocked back in April 2026, an event that typically applies downward pressure on price. The fact that this surge came months after that unlock, rather than being weighed down by it, suggests the buying pressure is sentiment-driven rather than supply-driven.
PENGU launched on the Solana blockchain on December 17, 2024, with a total supply of 88.89 billion tokens. The token functions as both a utility and governance asset within the Pudgy Penguins ecosystem, tying together NFT holdings, gaming initiatives, and the brand’s broader consumer strategy.
