EcoPro BM is investing around 40 billion won, equivalent to approximately 25 million euros, to upgrade its production facility in Debrecen. The company will convert a production line originally designed for NCA cathode material so that it can also manufacture NCM material. EcoPro BM has already ordered the necessary equipment.
NCM production itself is not new to the plans for the site. When the plant opened in late 2025, EcoPro BM said it would produce both high-nickel NCA and NCM cathode materials in Debrecen. The latest investment now confirms those plans for a specific customer project. From the fourth quarter of 2027, the plant will supply material with a nickel content of more than 90 per cent to a German premium car manufacturer. The customer has not been named, although BMW also produces vehicles in Debrecen.
EcoPro BM’s plant features three production lines with a combined annual capacity of 54,000 tonnes, sufficient for the batteries of around 600,000 electric cars. Following the ramp-up of the first line in June, the second is set to follow in September. For 2026, a production volume of around 10,000 tonnes is planned, increasing to 30,000 tonnes in 2027. In the long term, the site could expand further: at the groundbreaking in 2023, EcoPro BM had outlined a future capacity of 108,000 tonnes per year.
