THE National Gambling Board (NGB) warns South Africans, particularly those aged 25 to 34, against relying on gambling as a means to supplement income.

Recent research highlights the increasing prevalence of problem gambling in this demographic, raising concerns about financial vulnerability and the impact of digital access to gambling.

NGB acting chief executive officer Lungile Dukwana said the 2023/24 research showed that the 25 to 34 age group accounted for a significant share of participation across major gambling modes.

According to the study, 53% of participants in online sports betting and other contingencies were aged between 25 and 34.
