THE South African Responsible Gambling Foundation highlights the alarming rise in gambling among young adults, driven by financial insecurity and the allure of quick winnings.
Sibongile Simelane-Quntana, executive director of the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation, said people aged between 25 and 34 were navigating a particularly difficult stage of life amid unemployment, financial insecurity and rising living costs.
“These pressures can make gambling seem like a quick way to earn money, manage financial difficulties or improve one’s circumstances, increasing the risk of harmful gambling behaviours,” Simelane-Quntana said.
She warned that the promise of winnings could encourage people to chase losses after losing money.
