As part of efforts to deepen knowledge about tax arbitration, administration and governance in Rivers State and Nigeria, the Port Harcourt District of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) is set to train at least six young persons in tertiary institutions every year.
The District also plans to hold regular conferences and seminars with the aim of using such platforms to educate the public more about taxation and the need to key into emerging frameworks geared toward harnessing its developmental positives.
Kennedy Ikechukwu Imudia, Chairman of the District, stated this in Port Harcourt at a programme held at the weekend to unveil and swear in the new Executive Council of the District.
He said the District’s proposed scholarship would be for students studying Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Taxation and Law, noting that they would be assessed through their aggregate course points.
“We propose to encourage the young students in the tertiary institutions by sponsoring a minimum of six students annually through competitive criteria with the highest CGPA in their respective departments of Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Taxation and Law,” he said.
