Last month, when we did the jump-ball version of the offseason NBA Power Rankings that some people needed to see after the league’s oldest player made a free-agency decision, I hinted we would soon do a real one. Well, here we are — in the absolute valley of the offseason.Much has happened in the last few weeks. We tried to wait on some other moves to happen, but the theme of this offseason is that things take longer than expected.Hall of Famer David Aldridge shared his offseason rankings this month, which, he clarified to spare him the wrath of the avatars, were for grading teams’ offseasons.Well, these rankings are for those looking to discharge that wrath! In fact, I encourage it. Just keep in mind that how you feel about your team right now will become material for me to reflect onto you throughout the season. Nothing feeds this column more than misplaced optimism!Since we’re still a ways away from teams winning or losing games of consequence, the thermal reading on these takes will not rise above room temperature. We’re ranking paper in a time of repose.
