Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala in a pensive mood at the Madlanga Commission ahead of continuing his testimony.

The Madlanga Commission has rejected alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala’s request to postpone his testimony until Tuesday, ordering his legal team to argue his bid to invoke his right against self-incrimination instead.

Matlala’s lawyers had sought to stand down his testimony until tomorrow, but the commission refused the request and granted a shorter adjournment to allow his legal team to consult with him before the self-incrimination arguments are heard.

Proceedings will resume at 11:30am.

During his earlier appearance, Matlala read from his statement but declined to answer questions concerning matters before the courts, including his controversial Medicare24 Tshwane contract with the South African Police Service (SAPS).
