Proteas batter Jason Smith has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Namibia.
The Proteas' white-ball squad has been dealt an early setback ahead of their upcoming tour to Namibia, with Dolphins all-rounder Jason Smith ruled out of the T20 International (T20I) Tri-series due to injury.
Smith sustained a right adductor muscle strain, forcing him to withdraw from the clashes against hosts Namibia and Zimbabwe in Windhoek.
The 31-year-old would have been hoping to make an impact after a disappointing tour to New Zealand following the T20 World Cup, while also having limited opportunities with the bat on the SA 'A' tour to England during the winter.
The selectors have opted not to call up a replacement, with Smith now facing a race against time to prove his fitness for the subsequent three-match ODI series against the hosts, set to get underway on September 9.
