The new Volkswagen Tukan is the production version of the Tarok concept that was revealed in 2018.
Volkswagen has pulled the covers off its all-new Tukan half-tonne bakkie in Brazil, and it replaces a bakkie that South Africans have been praying for for years.
Replacing the long-serving Saveiro compact bakkie, the Tukan gives Volkswagen a more modern player in a hot market segment in South America, where it goes up against rivals such as the Fiat Toro and Strada, Chevrolet Montana and Ford Maverick.
Unlike the Saveiro, the Tukan is available in double cab format.
To cover all bases in that segment, the Tukan will be available in single-cab and double-cab variants. Over the weekend, Volkswagen of Brazil revealed the double cab in range-topping ‘Extreme’ trim and the single cab in entry-level ‘Robust’ trim, complete with unpainted bumpers.
