World leaders, from the United States to Australia, are congratulating Ukraine on its Independence Day.

On behalf of the United States, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Ukraine on the 35th anniversary of its independence and emphasized that his country remains ready to work toward achieving peace in Ukraine.

“Today, 35 years after Ukraine declared its independence from the Soviet Union on August 24, 1991, the United States once again reaffirms the strong partnership between our two countries. The United States remains committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty and continues to work to support a negotiated settlement to the Russia-Ukraine war that will ensure lasting and durable peace,” the statement on the U.S. Department of State website reads.

Rubio also emphasized that the United States is once again reaffirming its firm commitment to strengthening economic and security ties between the two countries and paving the way toward peace and prosperity for both peoples.
