Confronting a drug addict can go badly wrong, one family in Bangladesh discovered when they came across their narcotic-imbibing neighbours. One by one, the family of four – man, wife and two children – were killed when they heard noises coming from the roof of their home and climbed up to the floor to check out the source.NDTV reports the incident in Rangpur city began innocuously enough on Thursday, when the retired schoolteacher Ganapati Chakraborty heard sounds coming from the roof of his home. He went up to suss out the source of the noise when he came across his neighbours – cousins Siddhartha Das (19) and Mugdha Das (23) - allegedly consuming yaba, a methamphetamine-based drug.Having been discovered, the cousins attacked Chakraborty , reportedly strangling him with the towel he was carrying. When his wife, hearing the struggle ran up to the roof, she was also overpowered and killed. When the couple’s daughter followed them out, she struggled with the killers only to be strangled with a rope. The 12-year-old son was then sought out and murdered so he would not identify him.NDTV quoted Police Commissioner Mabud as saying that the two suspects seemed to stay in the house overnight, bathing, eating and consuming drugs (traces of which were found on a table). They sought to make the deaths look like a robbery gone wrong, suggests the news portal, noting that cupboards and drawers had been overturned and gold jewellery was missing. When the family was found on Saturday, their faces had been burned. The suspects are currently in custody and have confessed to the crime, says the report. The jewellery has also been recovered. The investigation is ongoing.Karishma Nandkeolyar is a lifestyle and entertainment journalist with a lifelong love for storytelling — she wrote her first “book” at age six and has been chasing the next sentence ever since.
