(Picture for representation/ANI )The accused, identified as Siddhartha Das, 23, and Mugdha Das, 19, allegedly remained inside the house for hours after the killings, even attempting to wipe their fingerprints from the victims' phones and staging the scene to make it look like a robbery, according to Dhaka Tribune.Police detained the two men from Dakhiganj cremation ground in Rangpur city. Police said the suspects allegedly strangled him with a gamchha – thin cotton towel – he was carrying on his shoulder, fearing that their identities would be exposed.Ganapati struggled to save himself, causing a commotion, police said.Hearing the noise, Pritilata went upstairs. The suspects allegedly strangled her with a piece of cloth on the staircase, the commissioner said.The couple's daughter Prarthi and son Priyam were also killed during the incident, police said. Priyam's body was later found under a bed inside the house.Ate, bathed and took drugs after killingsRather than fleeing immediately, the suspects allegedly stayed inside the house throughout Thursday night. Police said they showered in the bathroom, ate dates from the dining table and continued consuming yaba after killing the family.They also allegedly soaked Ganapati and Pritilata's mobile phones in water mixed with washing powder in an attempt to remove their fingerprints, according to police.The suspects reportedly remained inside until Friday morning and left when the area became quieter during Friday prayers.Before leaving, they allegedly ransacked the house to make the killings appear as a consequence of a robbery.Police said the suspects later hid the stolen gold ornaments in an abandoned area behind a temple near the house. He later practised as a homeopathic doctor.His sister, Puja Chakraborty, said the family had been unreachable since Thursday night. Despite repeated calls, she could not contact Pritilata or any other family member, while all four phones at the house were switched off.Concerned relatives went to the house on Saturday night and found the main gate locked. Police and Fire Service personnel arrived at around 10:45pm after being alerted and broke open the door.They found one body inside a room and three others near the rooftop area.The bodies were recovered and sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsies.According to the police commissioner, Ganapati's body was found on the roof, while Pritilata and Prarthi's bodies were recovered from the staircase. Priyam's body was found under a bed inside the house.The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) crime scene team collected evidence and cordoned off the house.CID Rangpur Superintendent of Police Sumit Chowdhury said investigators initially suspected that the killings were linked to a robbery. As the deaths had occurred about two days earlier, the bodies had already begun to decompose, he said.The identities of the two suspects were established through a joint investigation involving the Rangpur Metropolitan Police, CID and Detective Branch, Mabud said.Police said the family had no known disputes or enmity with anyone.
