The platform has become central to how developers access tools and data sets to build AI.
Hugging Face is exploring a potential sale that could value the platform at $13bn or more, Business Insider reported yesterday (23 August). The company is discussing terms, but no deal is set in stone, sources told the publication.
A potential sale would nearly triple Hugging Face’s $4.5bn valuation from 2023 after a $235m Series D backed by big name investors including Google, Amazon, Nvidia, Intel, Qualcomm, IBM and Salesforce.
That value already doubled the 2016-founded start-up’s 2022 valuation, reportedly at 100-times its annualised revenue at the time. The New York-headquartered company was founded by French entrepreneurs Clément Delangue, Julien Chaumond and Thomas Wolf.
Hugging Face helps developers share and discover datasets and tools for AI. The company’s platform plays a central role in how developers access models in the AI era, recording close to 300,000 datasets in the past six months alone.
