For Spanish fashion retailer Mango, India has emerged as “one of the most promising markets” and is fast becoming an integral part of its global fashion launch cycle. This comes at a time when the fashion market in the country is witnessing growing premiumisation and stronger appetite for international fashion brands. In 2017, Myntra’s wholesale entity, Myntra Jabong India Pvt Ltd, secured the master franchise rights for Mango in India with online and offline channels now contributing equally to the brand’s India business.Daniel López García, Chief Commercial Officer and Board Member, Mango, told businessline, “India is one of the most promising markets in our portfolio as we celebrate our 25th anniversary in the market. What we are trying to do in the market is to provide to Indian consumers our value proposition and creativity... at the same time as we are delivering this creativity anywhere else in the world.” He pointed out that the partnership with Myntra has been “a turning point” for the brand’s expansion in India, which it entered in 2001.“As the premium retail space is evolving, we are pleased with the performance of India business and the pace at which it is growing. We have the right product-market fit. We see the consumers liking our value proposition, and that’s why we are so bullish about the Indian market,” Lopez noted.Currently, the brand is sold through 76 points of sales in India which includes 42 exclusive brand outlets besides shop-in-shop formats. Venu Nair, Chief of Strategic Partnerships and Omnichannel, SVP, Myntra, said, “We’ve significantly scaled up Mango’s exclusive brand outlets in association with our franchise partners and we will continue to expand these at a steady pace. Our strategy has been to expand through exclusive outlets and not through shop-in-shop formats. We are also focusing on growing the store sizes to offer the full experience to the customers.”He added that offline and online channels contribute almost equally to the brand’s business. The brand’s offline business is also being driven by M-Now which is driving repeat purchases. Nair also pointed out that the brand’s assortment in India is closely aligned with Mango’s global fashion trend cycle. “Mango launches a new collection every three week and it gets launched in India within a short period of time. Infact, India was among the five global markets where the Hailey Bieber Summer 2026 collection was launched,” he added.New category launches by the brand in the past few months in the country include Mango MNG for Teens and Mango fragrances. “We plan to expand these new categories multi-fold as this will deepen the brand’s presence. The recent launch of fragrances and MANGO MNG for Teens opens up new categories and consumer segments, creating further avenues for growth,” he said.Published on August 23, 2026
