President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Russia has not ruled out the theoretical possibility of launching an offensive from Russia’s Bryansk region toward the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. At the same time, no Russian troops have currently been detected in that area.
He said this while speaking to journalists, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Putin’s primary objective on the front remains unchanged – Kostiantynivka and Sloviansk. The latest deadline he gave his generals was to complete the occupation of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions by the end of the year. This is impossible – that is our response,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, responding to journalists’ questions, the President suggested that if Russian forces achieve success in eastern Ukraine, Moscow could redeploy its forces to other directions.
“If he (Putin – ed.) distributes 300,000 newly mobilized troops depending on what happens in the east of our country – if he achieves the success there that he is counting on – then he may redistribute forces to another direction. For example, to create a ‘buffer zone.’ The Chernihiv-Kyiv direction is also a possibility – he has plans and theoretical intentions to launch an offensive in that direction from Russia, from the Bryansk region,” the President said.
