Russia may be preparing an offensive against the Chernihiv region from Russia's Bryansk region, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi has said.
According to Ukrinform, Syrskyi made the remarks in an interview with TSN.
"We know that Putin has instructed the Russian General Staff to assess various options for an offensive operation, including one launched from Belarusian territory, aimed at capturing Kyiv and seizing other Ukrainian territories. The Russian General Staff has developed several scenarios. How realistic they are is another matter. Given recent developments, I don't think the Belarusian leadership would dare allow its territory to be used by the aggressor as a staging ground for an offensive. Nevertheless, we are taking that possibility into account. The most likely scenario, and this is supported by several indicators, is a possible offensive in the north from Russian territory, specifically from the Bryansk region... not toward Kyiv, but toward the Chernihiv region," Syrskyi said.

According to him, the purpose of such an operation would be to divert part of Ukraine's forces away from key sectors of the front, including areas where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are conducting active operations.
