Annie Meyers-Shyer describes herself as an “accidental influencer”. The daughter of film director Nancy Meyers – whose credits include The Parent Trap, Something’s Gotta Give and The Holiday – started the Instagram account @ThisOakHouse in 2023. Her posts detail the ins and outs of renovating her historical home in Los Angeles, complete with PDF documents of her kitchen cabinet construction, a guide to framing art, and a list of her favourite Etsy vendors, and have since picked her up more than 200,000 followers.

The country colonial-style dwelling was designed by “Hollywood society architect” Gerard Colcord in 1946. Meyers-Shyer and her husband, attorney Robby Koch, inherited the property from Koch’s mother and have spent nearly five years reconfiguring it into a family home for four. Now, the process has been turned into a book: This Oak House: a Renovation Story will be published next month.
