The final score was irrelevant, even if Nick Sirianni had to be pleased with how the Philadelphia Eagles performed in their second game of the preseason.Since the Eagles and New England Patriots had two joint practices during the week, the second and third team got a lot of productive work in on Saturday night. The second team performed significantly better than the first preseason game -- an excellent sign for the Eagles as they look to fill out their 53-man roster. The Eagles learned a lot about their football team, and may have found a few players that will be on the 53-man roster in the process. There were the most important takeaways from game two of the preseason. Enjoy our content? Ty Robinson will be on this football team If Vic Fangio didn't like Robinson in the past, he certainly has been changing his tune. We saw the same as Fangio has over the past few weeks, as Robinson has "come alive" after being on "life support." Robinson has been dominant this preseason, and was arguably the best player on the field Saturday night. He played less than a half of football and had three quarterback hits and two sacks in 15 pass rushing snaps. Essentially, Robinson had a quarterback hit once every five pass rushes. That's very good. In 45 pass rushing snaps this preseason (two games), Robinson has 3.0 sacks and four quarterback hits. He has six tackles in 71 snaps, all in six quarters of football. There was concern whether Robinson was going to make this team. Those concerns are over, as Robinson will have a spot on the 53-man roster. Robinson is going to be the fifth defensive tackle in a very loaded rotation. 2. Andy Dalton can't be the QB2 Dalton has been a disappointment over the past few weeks. Every time he has an opportunity to take the QB2 job and separate himself from Tanner McKee for this job, he takes a step back. This game was a perfect example. Dalton couldn't move the football through the air, which was evident on the first offensive series. Darius Cooper got open on an out route and Dalton overthrew him then Dalton missed an open Eli Stowers on a corner post on the next play -- forcing the Eagles to punt. There should have been a few interceptions thrown by Dalton when he played in the first half. He just hasn't played well in preseason games, and the only time the offense moves with Dalton at quarterback is through the running game. The offensive line is certainly protecting Dalton. Dalton was 3-of-10 for 44 yards, the only completions to Darius Cooper. He is the front runner for the QB2 job, but the Eagles need to seriously consider Tanner McKee for this job. McKee can't be any worse than Dalton has been at this stage of the summer.McKee also outperformed Dalton in this one, with the third team offense. The Eagles have a lot to think about with QB2. 3. The Eagles have a good second team offensive line One of the biggest question marks of the offseason was the lack of depth on the offensive line -- at guard and tackle. It's laughable there was so much discussion regarding the No. 3 guard and No. 3 tackle after watching the second team offensive line dominate Saturday night. Markel Bell was dominant on the outside zone runs, while Willie Lampkin and Jake Majors sealed their men and created space in the A-gap and B-gap. There's a reason why Will Shipley was averaging 5.1 yards per carry -- and these three were the right side of the second team offensive line. Drew Kendall also had a good performance at left guard, and he's the top option at guard behind Landon Dickerson and Tyler Steen. He's also the top option at center behind Cam Jurgens. Fred Johnson also had a good performance at left tackle, and has a reputation for being a menace in the run game. The second team offensive line of Johnson, Kendall, Lampkin, Majors, and Bell were incredible in this game. Lampkin should make this team with his performance on Saturday night. Majors is also making the case as the 10th offensive lineman as well. The 10th lineman will be a battle to watch in the final week of camp. 4. Carson Steele will be the fullback Week 1What a performance by Steele, who showcased what he can do with more snaps and injuries at running back. Steele had two impressive hurdles on receptions, the second one led to a 20-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that had the Eagles sideline fired up. Steele finished with six catches for 84 yards on the night, which is excellent for a running back trying to make this roster. He also had some nice runs in the first half, finishing with 12 carries for 33 yards. The Eagles are looking for a fullback on this roster as an extra blocker, and Cameron Latu was the prohibitive favorite for that job until Saturday night. Steele was a weapon on playaction in the passing game and had some authoritative runs after the catch. While it's hard to put too much stock in preseason performances, especially in the second half of a preseason game, Steele certainly got on the radar what how he looked catching passes. The Eagles have a decision to make at fullback, but Steele can be a valuable asset in this offense. Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow
