The UN Security Council will meet on Monday, August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day, to discuss the situation amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
The UN Security Council Secretariat announced the meeting, according to an Ukrinform correspondent in New York.
The discussion was initiated by five European members of the Security Council – Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, and the United Kingdom.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen is expected to chair the meeting, as Denmark holds the Security Council presidency in August.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher will brief the Council.
