What do you think of Margo?”Trump also mentioned an unnamed female supporter from Iowa as a possible choice and jokingly suggested NewsNation correspondent Kellie Meyer could take the role.The president praised Leavitt's tenure and said the position had become particularly attractive under her leadership.“I have never had so many job applications in my entire life. They all want that job. They love that job,” Trump told reporters while travelling to South Carolina.Leavitt, who became the youngest White House press secretary when she took office at 27 in January 2025, is set to leave the post at the end of August to spend more time with her two young children and family. Trump announced her decision on August 12, saying he “totally understand[s] and respect[s]” it.Jennings, a prominent CNN commentator and frequent defender of the Trump administration, previously served as a special assistant to President George W. Bush and as an adviser to Republican Senator Mitch McConnell.Martin serves as a special assistant to Trump and communications adviser at the White House. Trump did not indicate that either Jennings or Martin had been formally selected, and the White House has yet to announce Leavitt's successor.Jennings was also the leading contender on prediction market Kalshi on Friday, with a 41% probability of being chosen, followed by deputy press secretary Anna Kelly at 19%.Leavitt is expected to make her final official trip as Trump's press secretary on Saturday, when she accompanies him to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for a rally supporting Republican Senate candidate Darline Graham. She is expected to remain in Trump's political orbit after leaving the podium, taking up a senior advisory role at his MAGA Inc. super PAC.
