Good news for President Donald Trump: If Scott Jennings is hired as White House press secretary, Kaitlan Collins might actually smile more. On Thursday, rumors swirled online that Jennings was the front-runner to replace outgoing press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who is exiting her role at the end of the month to become one of President Donald Trump’s “top advisers.”Since Jennings is one of Collins’ colleagues at CNN — and he just so happened to be on her show, “The Source” Thursday night — she confronted Jennings about whether all the chatter was true.Kaitlan Collins and Scott Jennings.Getty“You know, Scott, I have to ask you because the White House announced yesterday Karoline Leavitt is leaving as press secretary. Your name keeps getting floated, which I’m sure you’ve seen. Have you heard anything from the White House on that job opening?” Collins asked. “I don’t really have anything to say about it other than, I mean, I would get to see you every day,” Jennings replied. “And I would think you’d be happy about this.” “I already see you every day,” Collins shot back. “Not really,” Jennings said with a laugh before continuing to give a deflective non-answer like a good Trump press secretary should. “We see each other one or two days a week.” He continued, “But can you imagine, every single day, getting to go to work where I am?” “We already work together, Scott!” Collins said with a laugh, pointing out that Jennings didn’t actually deny the rumors. “OK, but that’s not a no,” Collins highlighted.Collins went on to joke that Democratic commentator Paul Begala, who appeared alongside Jennings on her show Thursday, likely wasn’t in the running.“Paul Begala, I’m not going to ask you because I already know the answer to that — you have not gotten a call from the Trump White House to be their new spokesperson,” Collins quipped.Begala didn’t seem too upset by the snub by calling the White House position “a thankless job, and I don’t wish that on anybody. I especially don’t wish it on Scott ’cause he’s my friend.”“Uh, the audience is going to have some thoughts on that,” Collins quipped in conclusion. On Thursday, The Daily Beast published a report that sources “with knowledge of the situation” told the outlet that Jennings was the top banana in the running for the press secretary role.Sources inside and close to the Trump administration told the New York Post that former acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba and Breitbart Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle might also be considered for the role.
