Habba, Trump’s former personal lawyer, is an early frontrunner, the New York Post reported, citing sources within and close to the administration.Habba joined Trump’s legal team in 2021 vocally defending him during the 2024 hush-money trial that resulted in his conviction on 34 felony counts. Trump has described her “a tireless advocate for justice” and “unwavering in her loyalty,” according to a report in TIME magazine.Following his re-election Trump installed Habba as the interim US attorney in New Jersey. Later, when he nominated her for that role on a permanent basis, he faced resistance in the Senate and a panel of judges declined to extend her tenure, seeking to replace her.Trump and the Justice Department fought to keep her position ultimately allowing her to keep her role in an acting capacity.
