The Sacramento Kings waived six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan in early July to save about $15 million, but the 37-year-old forward then went a month and a half unsigned. Finally, on Friday, DeRozan found his next home.DeRozan signed a one-year deal with the Denver Nuggets, giving him some hope to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022 and potentially compete for his first-ever championship. DeRozan has made it past the second round of the playoffs just once in his 17-year career, and signing with the Nuggets to play with Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and company gives him a shot at more.Of course, now that we know DeRozan's new team, we can anticipate his first return to Sacramento. On March 8, 2027, the Kings will host the Nuggets to mark DeRozan's first trip back to Golden 1 Center. Still, as long as he is healthy, DeRozan will be making his return to Sacramento on March 8, and if not, he will have another shot on March 29. Reflecting on DeRozan's Kings tenureWhile DeRozan played just two seasons in Sacramento, his tenure with the Kings will be remembered. In the 2024 offseason, the six-time All-Star chose to play for the Kings, immediately becoming one of the greatest players to come through Sacramento, and the fact that it was a move he asked for made it even more special. Very rarely do the Kings have any player wanting to play for the disappointing franchise, so a star of his caliber coming to Sacramento meant everything at the time. Of course, the Kings team that DeRozan wanted to play for immediately looked much different. By February 2025, after DeRozan's sign-and-trade, the Kings no longer had head coach Mike Brown or star point guard De'Aaron Fox. By the 2025 offseason, there was plenty of speculation about the Kings trading DeRozan, but he stuck it out for the 2025-26 season.Kings rookies Max Raynaud and Nique Clifford discuss what they've learned from veterans Russell Westbrook and DeMar DeRozan🚨 NEW KINGS YM3 EP LIVE EVERYWHERE 🚨 pic.twitter.com/ADO1N7CGHk— TheOldManAndTheThree (@OldManAndThree) April 24, 2026Even though the Kings won just 22 games, DeRozan stayed the course. He appeared in 77 of their 82 contests, being the team's leading scorer and a valued veteran presence. There certainly seemed to be some mutual respect between DeRozan and GM Scott Perry, which led to an easy breakup this offseason as the Kings waived him.DeRozan's Kings tenure obviously did not go as planned, like pretty much everything for this Sacramento franchise. Will DeRozan get a tribute video in his first return to Sacramento? No, but the Kings fans likely respect him enough to give him a standing ovation when he checks in for the first time for the Nuggets. DeRozan's return to Sacramento on March 8 will certainly still be well worth watching, not only for the six-time All-Star's return, but also to see three-time MVP Nikola Jokic in action.Follow us on Facebook and X for the latest Sacramento Kings news.Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow
