After he earned a promotion with a .286 batting average across 72 Double-A games this season, Salas is currently slashing .359/.427/.625 with an OPS of 1.052 through his first 17 games at the highest minor league classification. Additionally, Padres insider Kevin Acee of the San Diego Tribune reported that there are a pair of Friars at risk of losing their spots on the roster due to their low production at the plate, plus a few key bats aiming for a return to the lineup. Samad Taylor recently began a rehab assignment after suffering an oblique strain towards the beginning of July, and according to Acee, Miguel Andujar is back to once again swinging a bat after a wrist fracture that has kept him on the shelf for the last month. Finally, three MLB.com insiders ranked San Diego's farm system as the worst in baseball, partly as a result of an eventful trade deadline.
