The brand, which began 53 years ago as a stall on west London’s Portobello Road, not only knows what it’s doing when it comes to quality pieces but some of its most iconic designs are trending. Think beaded bags – Monsoon originally put them on the high street – embroidered boho blouses, wafty smock dresses (that you can wear with sandals or boots), suede jackets, chic flats and party-ready metallic heels.FATFACEThere’s a millennial meme circling among my friends: ‘Am I getting old or is M&S suddenly cool?’ Well, I’d like to throw FatFace in the ring because it’s suddenly surprisingly trendy (and, as a spritely 30-year-old, it’s not down to me getting older). The brand has shrugged off its frumpy aesthetic for exciting styles. Both my mum and I covet its barrel-leg jeans, floral midis, suede bags and cute flats. We love retailers whose designs are ageless rather than ageist!MINT VELVETThe brand does polka dots, checks, stripes and any other trendy print you can think of in a grown-up, sophisticated way and makes hardworking staple designs that feel luxe. Look out for its new burgundy checked power duo slip dress and soft knit, the ultimate two-in-one multitasking pair. Mint Velvet doesn’t neglect its silver shopper, either – my (very stylish) granny says it’s one of her new favourite haunts, too.WHITE STUFFI had forgotten about White Stuff until a girlfriend showed up to lunch in its slinky floral Hope skirt. Taken aback by the fit and quality, I checked out its rails for myself and, it seems, I’ve been missing out on a treasure trove of gems. White Stuff’s new range of shirt dresses, red Breton knits and waterproof barn jackets (the rain will come eventually!) are all winners. Plus its shoes – from soft leather ballet flats to comfy clogs – and jewellery are the real standouts to snap up before they sell out.GAPWhile the American clothing brand has made headlines this year with its tranche of celebrity and luxury designer collaborations – see Victoria Beckham’s sellout collection in April and Hailey Bieber’s viral denim capsule range last month – its mainline offering is big news, too. Denim is its currency and standout picks include high-waisted 90s straight jeans, a bestselling classic, and, for the ultimate wide-leg, its 90s loose jeans sit on the stylish side of baggy. Although Gap does other wardrobe classics brilliantly, too – don’t skip its heavy, quality trench coats and sharp shirts.
