The Book and Boot Foundation has trained more than fifty students in Scrabble as part of a grassroots initiative aimed at promoting sports participation and reducing inequality among children in rural communities in Ogun State.
The four-day training, held at El-Berit Academy in Esupofo community, Ado Odo Local Government Area of the state, introduced the students to the fundamentals of the game and provided them with playing kits, including boards, tiles, racks and score sheets.
Speaking during the programme, the foundation’s director, Dotun Omisakin, said the initiative was designed to bridge the gap in access to sports opportunities for children in underserved communities.
“We have observed that some sports are highly capital intensive, which cannot be afforded by some children in the rural communities,” Omisakin said.
