YENAGOA: The Bayelsa State Government has approved the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA) for academic and non-teaching staff of the state’s three universities.

The Deputy Governor, Dr Peter Akpe, announced the approval on Friday at a resumed meeting with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) representing Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) and University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT), in Yenagoa.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Doubara Atasi, Akpe said the approval followed a resolution recently passed by the state House of Assembly and communicated to Governor Douye Diri for consideration and approval.

He explained that the financial implication of implementing the allowances would increase the government’s monthly expenditure by more than N500 million across the three universities.
