The union maintained that the N2.14 billion cited by the state government as part of ASUU's demands was not the Computed Annual Teaching Allowance (CATA) being sought by lecturers.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Niger Delta University (NDU) chapter, has warned that industrial action could soon begin across Bayelsa State-owned universities, accusing the state government of failing to implement the 2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), pay 19 months of outstanding wage award arrears, and fulfil other agreements reached with the union.
In a statement issued by the union, ASUU acknowledged the recent approval of allowances for workers in the Bayelsa State Public Service but described the government's decision to lump its demands together with allowances yet to be approved for other unions as misleading and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.

According to the union, its actual demand is for the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed with the Bayelsa State Government on December 23, 2025, which provides for the payment of CATA from January 2026.
