Southern and eastern Finland face heavy rain and strong winds this weekend as a low-pressure system moves towards the country, according to forecasts from Foreca and the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

Foreca said on Friday that its forecast for the system had strengthened. The weather service now expects widespread heavy rainfall, with 40–50 millimetres forecast across parts of southern and eastern Finland during the weekend.

The Helsinki region lies within the area expected to receive heavy rain.
