Leaving the military means leaving behind a career built on structured promotions and job stability. Entering the civilian workforce looks different. Jobs are more transient, and employer loyalty is often questionable, giving many transitioning service members pause. Recently, in a transition assistance program, the topic of job security came up. One soldier in the room remarked, “I’ve got a job lined up at a large consulting firm. My career is set, and I don’t have to worry about job security.” Others in the room questioned his understanding of his post-military career and asked for clarification.
