I’m not going to suggest that the news concerning Terrion Arnold’s availability after he signs with the Seahawks was good. I’m sure this team would have preferred having him available to play, or at least practice, from the start. However, let’s explore the possibility that it ultimately won’t matter very much, and will remain a big positive for the team.When Will Arnold Be Permitted To Play?First, we have to ask ourselves when Arnold will be made available to the Seahawks. Then, we have to accept that this is the biggest unknown variable. My expectation would be a six-game suspension, including the games he misses before the court date. If that date doesn’t clear him, I’d be concerned about the whole season.Multiple Years Of Cheap ControlThose possibilities hurt if one assumes that Arnold’s value to this team is as depth for the 2026 season. If he can’t play, he can’t provide depth. However, the Seahawks might have much bigger plans for Terrion. If he misses all of 2026, then he becomes exclusive rights in 2027 and restricted in 2028, meaning two full years of cheap control.Arnold’s Value To The SeahawksNow, suppose the Seahawks aren’t actually doing this because they’re terrified of their cornerback depth. Or, if you prefer, suppose that the Seahawks are lucky enough to get healthy seasons out of Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe, making the whole issue moot. There’s a reason why almost every major big board had him as a top twenty player in the 2024 draft. He’s got far more to offer at the NFL level than Josh Jobe, as good as Jobe has been in Seattle so far. He could be one of the best #2 corners in the NFL if he can get past his (defensible) struggles in Detroit.A Glimpse Of A Potential FutureSo, let’s look ahead to 2027. The Seahawks never got to play Terrion during the 2026 season, but Goodell gives the green light for him going forward. With the benefit of a full offseason with the team, Arnold beats out Jobe and Neal for the starting job across from Witherspoon. This is how an elite team with a bunch of elite players who get elite paydays stays at the top. Finding more elite players at discounted rates. Most teams just find them in the draft and ride the rookie contracts.
