Ethiopia, which boasts East Africa’s most powerful military, recently agreed to strengthen its defense and security ties with the US Armed Forces, the world's leading military power.
Through this decision, both nations aim to establish a more comprehensive strategic framework for military and diplomatic cooperation.
A senior Ethiopian delegation led by Major General Teshome Gemechu, Director General of Foreign Relations and Military Cooperation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia's Ministry of Defense, visited the United States for high-level meetings on August 19 and 20, 2026.
The sessions took place at the Pentagon, where Ethiopian officials discussed military, security, and bilateral cooperation with top leaders from the United States Department of War.
Major General Teshome and Brian J. Ellis, the Pentagon's Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for African Affairs, oversaw the meetings together.
