An estimated 40,000 non-compliant products have been sold online and in shops

French watchdogs are warning over unsafe condoms after checks they carried out on online retailers, high street shops and pharmacies found thousands of products with safety concerns.

The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) and the Directorate-General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) announced on Friday that they had identified around 30 product lines lacking CE marking and mandatory safety testing.

Approximately 1,000 boxes were sold, or more than 40,000 condoms in total, according to the public health agency, which said the majority were distributed by Asian vendors.

The condoms “may pose serious risks to users’ health and safety”, including unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as HIV, wanted the authorities.
