SA police reset agenda on the horizon following a call made by Popcru president Thulani Ngwenya during this week's Central Executive Committee meeting at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg.
Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has revealed she is awaiting recommendations from the highly anticipated Madlanga Commission of Inquiry before implementing any changes to the country's criminal justice system.
This announcement coincides with emphasis from the Police and Prison Civil Rights Union (Popcru) for a radical restructuring of South Africa's police forces, which has become a topic of debate during their recent Central Executive Committee meeting.
The meeting, held at the Birchwood Hotel in Ekurhuleni from August 18 to 22, gathered prominent figures, including Deputy Minister of Police Cassel Mathale and former Johannesburg Mayor David Makhura. Popcru's President Thulani Ngwenya took the opportunity to highlight the need for a streamlined approach to policing, advocating for a singular police force that operates uniformly across the country's nine provinces.
This, and many other issues, are expected to be fully ventilated by more than 300 Popcru delegates, who form part of the highly sensitive policy proposals aimed at stabilising the police sector as the sector undergoes a series of challenges, amid a series of revelations at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into political interference in the criminal justice system.
