Russia attacked a border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova for the second night in a row, damaging buildings and forcing the checkpoint to close, Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service said on Friday, Aug. 21. Russian drones targeted the Odesa region overnight, hitting the international Tabaki crossing on the Moldova border, according to Ukrainian border officials.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. The checkpoint is now closed, with traffic being redirected to other crossings. The strike came less than 24 hours after Russian forces also targeted a border checkpoint in the Odesa region during a large-scale overnight attack on Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the incidents were “not isolated cases,” warning that Russia is increasingly testing the resolve of NATO and its partners by violating the sovereignty of neighboring countries. The latest strike also comes after Moldova reported that a drone entered its airspace during Russian attacks on Ukraine on the night of Aug. 20. Moldova’s Defense Ministry said preliminary information indicated the drone was a Shahed-136, a Russian-modified version of the Iranian-designed attack drone known in Russia as the Geran-2.
